EMDR & IFS:
Healing Through Proven Therapies
Many of our clinicians specialize in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Internal Family Systems (IFS)—two powerful, evidence-based approaches for healing trauma, anxiety, depression and other disorders.
If you’re considering therapy and wondering how these methods can help, here’s what you need to know!
-
EMDR
EMDR is a structured therapy designed to help people process and heal from traumatic experiences.
It’s different from traditional talk therapy because it uses bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tapping, or sounds) to help your brain reprocess distressing memories in a way that reduces their emotional intensity.
-
IFS
Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy is based on the idea that we all have multiple parts within us—some that protect us, some that hold pain, and some that guide us.
The goal of IFS is to help you understand and heal these inner parts, leading to greater self-compassion and emotional balance.
What to expect in an EMDR session:
-
✺
You and your therapist will identify the distressing memory you want to work on.
-
✺
Using bilateral stimulation, your therapist will guide you through recalling the memory in a safe, controlled way.
-
✺
Over time, the memory becomes less triggering, and new, healthier associations replace old distressing patterns.
-
✺
✔️ Reduces the emotional charge of traumatic memories
-
✺
✔️ Helps break negative thought patterns linked to past experiences
-
✺
✔️ Proven effective for PTSD, anxiety, depression, and phobias
What to expect in an IFS session:
-
✺
Your therapist will help you explore your different inner parts and understand how they interact.
-
✺
Instead of fighting or ignoring painful emotions, you’ll learn to work with them compassionately.
-
✺
Over time, you’ll build self-leadership, meaning your true self takes the lead rather than fear, stress, or past wounds.
-
✺
✔️ Helps heal trauma, anxiety, and self-doubt
-
✺
✔️ Encourages self-awareness and emotional resilience
-
✺
✔️ Supports a deeper connection between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors
